How to evaluate a used car with a used car inspection in Dubai?

You have obvious reasons to purchase a used car and often it’s a prudent financial decision. Often, a two year used car is said to be 40% less expensive than a new car. While the decision to go for a used car is appreciated by many car financial experts, like any other financial decisions, this also poses certain risks like the car could have been a major accident or it was not maintained well so that it could give you serious trouble anytime. These faults normally do not show up in a visual checkup or test drive.

Before you start looking, its best to refer to some magazines or online reports to understand cars that generally tend to give you trouble after a certain mileage or years. It’s best to avoid such cars especially if a good looking car comes really comes cheap. There are also certain other cars, if maintained well, performs better but have a poor reputation due to lack of proper servicing or dealer gone wrong.

Evaluate a used car with a used car inspection in Dubai. There are a few steps you should consider before making a decision.

1. Get a used car history from RTA:

Dubai RTA offers a service called ‘Vehicle Condition Certificate’ which will give details on mileage, owner details and condition of the vehicle during the last test etc. This information can only be collected with the permission of the current owner and is it comes at a charge. The history is provided on vehicles imported.

2. Visual inspection:

Often in a visual inspection, you look for signs of accident, rust, tires, and alignment. Here’s how you go about these inspections;

  •  Look for any mismatch in the color of the paint.
  • An overspray of paint on some parts.
  • Light reflects differently on different body panels.
  • The line up of body panels evenly from top to bottom.
  • Doors, trunk and hood properly open and are aligned.
  • Look for Rust. Often rust is found at the bottom of the doors on the body panel above tires.
  • Another important are is tires, you should be looking for ample tread. If the sides of the tires are damaged or front and back tires wear even across the width of the tread, this talks about alignment issues. Visual inspection is a main step in used car inspection in Dubai.

3. Test drive:

Complete test drives in a range of conditions, slow, fast, up and down on highway and around a neighborhood. You should be looking anything abnormal when it starts, if it shakes or makes excessive noise or smoke.
When you’re driving be careful check for anything abnormal or irregular such a vibrations, pulling to sides or accelerates evenly. If the car makes noise when turns or stops it should be noticed and considered as well.  Gear changes and transmission will give you a lot of information about the vehicle’s condition. Accelerate quickly to see if the engine repsonse or takes a while to respond.
